IN THE COMMUNITY

Every day we seek to make a positive contribution to the health and well-being of single mothers and the community by providing a safe place for those mothers and their children. We serve and foster the growth and development of our mothers and children with community events and neighborhood gatherings that strengthen social skills and provide a platform to increase awareness.

Sunday Funday

The New Beginnings is located in a low-income neighborhood overflowing with families in need of help. We host a neighborhood event once a month with the intent of getting to know our community. We invite our neighbors both near and far. If you would like to be included on our events mailing list, please email: monica@thenewbeginnings.org

FGCU Single Mother Scholarship

Years of physical, emotional, and financial abuse prevented me from coming to school sooner than I did. Getting to a place of healing and wanting to use my past experiences to help others in situations many are oblivious to, or don’t know how to help, also took time. My high emotional intelligence and ability to palpate the underlying sentiments in a room is a highly sought after skill I intend to use wisely in aiding me to help diagnose my patients as a physician one day. I’ve been accepted into medical school, and will continue my learning in that field after completing my bachelor’s degree at FGCU. I already have the ability to wear multiple hats raising 3 young boys completely on my own, on top of the many tasks adults, and students with 20+credit hours undergo. I’ve already tackled many of the potential setbacks young students face when going to school or entering the workforce, so I feel I have a precise trajectory I’m following, and am ready to learn and conquer my goals. I’ve lived overseas and utilized my fluency in other languages. I participated in a plethora of clubs and extracurricular activities prior to having children, and feel I now have a healthy balance of well-intentioned service with home and school life balance.
